The Lydia's House of Hope Program

Lydia’s House of Hope is a unique, highly structured,  year-long residential program, where women come for a new beginning for themselves and their children.

Our dedicated Case Managers assess each resident when they come in, and develop an individualized version of the program for each resident.

Many of our residents do not have the tool set to bring themselves out of poverty and provide better lives for themselves or their children. Things that we take for granted, like budgeting, self-reliance, personal accountability, and responsibility are not part of how many of our residents have been brought up. We change old behaviors and ways of living, and teach new skills and habits that are learned, put into practice, and made a part of everyday life.

At the end of Lydia’s program, residents will have acquired and strengthened their ability to live independently; to take care of their families, to redirect their lives in a positive and productive way, and to learn to give back to the community which had provided for them in their time of need.  Below are some of our programs and  training topics:

  • Job Training
  • Parenting
  • Computer Literacy
  • Cooking & Gardening
  • Daily living skills & Occupational Therapy
  • Communication Skills
  • Budgeting & Finance
  • 12-Step Support
  • LDAC Counseling
  • Art Therapy
  • Nurse Advocacy
  • Trauma Therapy

After 12 months, graduates of the program will have the skills to propel their lives forward and break the cycle of generational poverty and homelessness. Graduates also have the opportunity to move into Grace House.

Lydia’s House of Hope is a 25 resident facility near downtown Somersworth, NH.

The building was a former nursing home that had been neglected. We have transformed it into a model for combating the epidemic of homelessness and generational poverty throughout the Seacoast Area.

Our beautiful 33-room historic home features 12 private family rooms, a commercial kitchen, a learning center, a gym designed by Planet Fitness, an inviting common area, a community garden, and a children’s playroom.

Many of our residents and their children have been born into the mind-set of day-to-day life without options, support, or hope. We want to restore their HOPE and provide a long-term solution to ending poverty and homelessness for these women and families through our program.

With the support of corporations, businesses, individuals, and our amazing community, this facility and program have begun changing families lives!
THANK YOU!

What makes us different?

We are not a shelter and not just another transitional house.

We are a highly-structured, faith-based, yearlong transitional living program for women with and without children.

When all you’ve ever experienced has been poverty, lack, rejection, and fear – that’s all you know. Our families learn the missing pieces that cause them to stay stuck in the generational cycle of homelessness and poverty. Over the past eight years we have learned that we cannot teach independence and self-sufficiency without instilling the values of accountability, responsibility, and the importance of routine and structure.

Lydia’s House is not just ‘a place to live’ for women and children. It’s an environment of safety, security, support, and love which promotes growth and healing. Not just housing, but a new beginning!
