COMMUNITY: “A group of people living in the same place or having a particular characteristic in common. A feeling of fellowship with others, as a result of sharing common attitudes, interests and goals”.
This is the traditional definition of Community. To us, it means so much more than that.
- It means coming together for a common goal.
- It means providing a service or item to share with someone else.
- It means offering support, and encouragement when someone around you is in need.
- It means sacrificing something of yourself for the bigger picture of helping others. We see all of these things everyday at Lydia’s House of Hope
Lydia’s House of Hope could not function or continue on its path to help the woman and children in crisis without the support, involvement, and overall generosity of the community that surrounds us. This community takes all shapes, sizes and forms. It ranges from school kids coming to clean our basement, to a dedicated ladies club taking care of our lawn, to a large corporation giving of their time to run a charity event. It includes hundreds of volunteers sharing and giving of their time and recourses to teach and train our residents; It includes individuals dropping off needed supplies, clothing, baby items, and homemade quilts; It includes decorated chefs from local restaurants preparing a meal and sharing it with us. Community to us is all of the above and more………community is the lifeblood of this organization
